Friends and Neighbors,

I’m running for Minneapolis Park Board – District 3, and I’m asking for your support and endorsement at the upcoming convention on July 19.

As a small healthcare provider and longtime advocate for our youth, I’ve spent 10+ years serving our community, meeting people where they are, helping families navigate challenges, and making sure no one is left behind.

In addition to my work in healthcare, I serve as the Somali Vice Chair for the DFL Caucus, where I’ve had the honor of representing and amplifying the voices of our East African community. Through that experience, and through my deep relationships across Minneapolis, I’ve come to see myself as a bridge for many communities, especially our Indigenous and Latinx community, along with some amazing allies who continue to stand up for equity and justice.

Because I am part of this community, I see myself as a voice for those often unheard, those whose lives are shaped by public spaces, but who aren’t always included in decisions about them. I’m running to change that.

Our parks should be more than green space. They should be centers of healing, growth, and opportunity for every child, every family, and every neighborhood.

My Priorities Are Clear:

  • Youth & Community Engagement: I’ll work to ensure that teachers, coaches, and parents have a voice in park decisions because our kids deserve programs and spaces built for them.
  • Equity & Accessibility: Every park should be safe, welcoming, and fully accessible, no matter your zip code, race, or income.
  • Education & Partnership: I proudly support the Minnesota Department of Education and will fight to build stronger ties between our parks, our schools, and our families.
  • Worker Respect & Union Support: I stand with unions and will always support the workers who keep our parks running with dignity and care.
  • Environmental Stewardship: From climate resilience to green infrastructure, I’ll prioritize protecting our land and future.

I’m not a career politician. I’m a problem solver, a caregiver, and a community voice. And that’s exactly what makes me different. I’m running not for a title, but for impact in my community.

I Need Your Support

I would be honored to earn your endorsement at the District 3 Convention on Saturday, July 19. Your voice and your vote can help shape a Park Board that truly serves the people.

Let’s build something powerful together for our youth, our families, and our future.

With gratitude and hope,

Ilhan Aden
